A Movement That Began With One Question

A Movement That Began With One Question

Why are some students throwing away books…
while others don’t have any?

The Beginning

The Beginning

During a regular tutoring session, her teacher – who also taught at a government school nearby – mentioned offhandedly that her students in Class 10 were struggling to prepare for their board exams. Not because they weren’t studying. Because they didn’t have textbooks. She wasn’t asking for anything. She was just saying it – the way people mention things they’ve long since accepted as normal. Vedika didn’t accept it as normal. She was a school student herself. A STEM learner who thought in systems, in gaps, in problems worth solving. And here was one sitting right in front of her: thousands of used textbooks thrown away every year by students like her, while students a few kilometres away were sharing torn, borrowed copies – or going without entirely. India doesn’t lack books. It lacks the bridge between the books that exist and the students who need them. Kitaab4U became that bridge & has been serving since 2024.

The Action

The Action

What started as a simple collection drive in her school quickly grew into something bigger.
With the support of friends, schools, and partners, Vedika built a network that:

Collaborates with institutions and publishers

Collects unused books

Redistributes them to students who need them most

Today, Kitaab4U is connected with 50+ government schools across Delhi, ensuring that learning doesn’t stop due to lack of resources.

“I didn’t start Kitaab4U to donate books.
I started it to make sure no student ever feels left behind because of something we already have.”
